Natural/organic lip products I’m throwing out

It came to my attention that I have WAY too many lip products that I simply don’t use, and haven’t for some time. I blame this on several factors:

  • Online purchases are often a disappointment, as the colour I THINK I am getting turns out to be different in real life. A lot of colours just don’t suit my complexion and so I never end up using them
  • I am not a lip person and don’t wear lipstick on a day-to-day basis. I have about 3-5 lip products in solid rotation and never really touch the others. I’d rather spend my money on face products, personally
  • I find it basically impossible to use up a product before it goes out of date. The average shelf-life for a natural lipstick is about 12 months.

So, without further ado, here I present to you some farewell swatches of the lip products I am about to throw away. I will give a little description on some I find worth mentioning. Also please bear in mind that some of these products may be discontinued by now.

From top to bottom:

Phyt’s lipstick in Pink Suspicion: lovely formula, colour washed me out a little

Terre D’oc lipstick in no.207: again, nice creamy formula, just didn’t really like the colour as much as I thought I would

Honeybee Gardens lipstick in Paradise: formula is a tad drying, colour is too brownish

Lavera lipstick in Rosewood: good formula, but once again the colour was too brown for me

Hemp Organics lip tint in berry: I liked this one, but I don’t tend to go for darker colours

Inika lipstick in Lola 01: this came in a set of products and the colour did not suit me in the slightest. Also very dry formula

Silk naturals kisser slicker in Raindrops on Roses: had this for way too long

Silk Naturals kisser slicker in Breathless: I liked this colour, but have had this for too long now

Silk Naturals kisser slicker in Mirabelle: as above- long overdue to be thrown out!

Burt’s Bee’s lip shimmer in Champagne: too light and sparkly, washed me out

Burt’s Bee’s tinted lip balm in Honeysucksle: ONE OF MY FAVOURITE LIP PRODUCTS OF ALL TIME! I plan to repurchase, but have had this one for several years now so it needs to go

Burt’s Bees natural lip gloss in Juicy Peach: I’m not really a fan of lip gloss. This was ok, but a bit grainy and annoying to wear

Burt’s Bees lip gloss in Ocean Sunrise: once again a bit too light and sparkly for my liking

The All Natural Face vegan lip gloss in Peppermint Stick: too pink, bright and sparkly for me. Delicious scent though if you like mint

The All Natural Face diva stix in Bubblegum: I went through a phase of wearing very bright and bold makeup, but now I find this just a bit too in-your-face pink for me. Also a bit of a drying formula

So there you have it! I feel really bad thinking of all the money I wasted on these products, but you live and learn I guess. Let me know if next post you want me to show you all the lip products I’m keeping and wear on a more regular basis. I have found that more subtle, pinky-peach colours work best on my skin-tone.

Hope you found this insightful and have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

Natural + Organic Contour Products

Heyyyyy!

Today I’d like to share with you a few products that I use to add a little shape and dimension to my face. They are either products I am currently using, have used in the past, or would like to use in the future (wishlist items)

Personally, I am a huge fan of creme products because I just find they are easier and tend to look more natural. However, if I am using a powder foundation I tend to use powder products to contour because…I don’t really know, I guess I just feel like they go together!

The products I am going to be doing a mini-review on today are:

  • Dr Hauschka Balancing Teint Powder
  • Kjaer Weis cream blush in ‘Abundance’
  • Everyday Minerals eyeshadow in ‘Nutmeg’
  • The All Natural Face cream blush in ‘Suntan’

The Dr Hauschka Balancing Teint Powder is probably my least favourite of the four. This particular product is actually not intended for contouring so perhaps that is why! The final colour in the trio is a nice browny-taupe though, making it somewhat suited to this purpose. Overall, in spite of the fabulous cool-toned colour, I found this product to be just too sheer, plus the thin strip of colour makes application difficult. You can only really use a very thin brush to get at the contour-colour; if you use a big brush you’ll end up picking up the pink and white shades in the trio, making the colour even MORE diluted! I’m pretty certain the Balancing Teint Powder is discontinued, however I have still seen it available on certain sites if you are interested in picking it up

The Kjaer Weis cream blush was definately the most expensive of the lot, and in terms of colour, it is probably not the best to choose for contouring. HOWEVER, I still just love this product. Not only is the packaging simply stunning (as is the case with all Kjaer Weis makeup), the product itself goes on very smoothly and lasts for a very, very long time. I actually like to layer a little on top of The All Natural Face Cream Blush in ‘Suntan’, and I find this not only gives a great natural colour, but increases the staying power.

Everday Minerals eyeshadow in ‘Nutmeg’ is obviously also not designed for contouring, but the shade is simply perfect- I’d say the best out of the four. The main drawback being that it is loose powder and therefore application is a little more difficult. If you’re on a tight budget though and don’t mind the fact that it takes a little more time to apply, this would be an option I’d highly recommend! Again, this product has unfortunately been discontinued, however there are still some available on Lucky Vitamin, so if you wanna pick some up you’d better hurry!

Finally, my favourite of the bunch- The All Natural Face Cream Blush in ‘Suntan’– the price, colour and formula make it an all-around winner. This product is creamy, pigmented and has very decent staying power. It is super-easy to apply and also comes in very cute packaging. Definately a must-have item for me.

And now, moving onto my wishlist items!

The Pumpkin and Poppy Michelle Cream Face Contour is something I’ve been eyeing off for a long time now! I love that this has been designed specifically for contouring, so the shade is a cool-toned taupe rather than bronze. Obviously I can’t say much for how it performs right now but after I try it out I’ll do a full-review!

Another item is the Pumpkin and Poppy Oak Bark Cool-Toned Contouring Powder, which has recieved a lot of love from many natural beauty bloggers.

What I would simply LOVE to see would be a pressed contour powder that is cool-toned, and as yet I haven’t come across any natural/organic products that fit the bill. If you know of any, PLEASE leave them as suggestions in the comments!

Have a wonderful day and keep smiling! 😊

Recycle, Reuse + Rejoice tag

I was tagged by Dana from Hearty Habits to do the ‘Recycle, Reuse + Rejoice’ tag. She has a fabulous blog about living a healthy, natural lifestyle and I highly recommend you go check her out!

Anyways, I know I was tagged like forever ago to do this but better late than never so here goes…

What motivated you to become more eco-friendly?:

I suppose I have just always grown up with the mentality to minimise waste and respect the environment. However, ‘natural’ living goes hand-in-hand with being ‘eco-friendly’ so I suppose my healthier lifestyle has resulted in me buying products that are more friendly to the environment

Do you adopt an ecological lifestyle, or do you stick to green beauty only?:

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think too much about living an ecological lifestyle. There is not too much thought put into the packagaing of products I buy, which is something I suppose I should work on. So I guess you could say I just stick mainly to buying toxic-free products as I know these are healthier for both me and the environment

Which ingredients are your store cupboard essentials, with many beauty uses?

Oooh, love this one. Firstly coconut oil, which is great for cooking and as a moisturiser for skin and hair. Secondly, raw honey which is freaking delicious and also great to use as a face-mask for fighting blemishes. Finally, apple cider vinegar is another cupboard essential I could not live without- I use this stuff as a toner everyday and also take it internally.

My favourite plastic-free product is:

Glass jars which are reusable and are used to house products such as nuts, coconut cream and various homemade concoctions

My favourite leftovers (food or beauty) is:

Juice! Juicing is a healthy way to use up bits of vegetables and fruit that you have lying around. Just throw anything you have on-hand into the juicer and voila!

Image

My favourite food that’s good for my health is:

Cocao. Theres no denying I am a chocoholic! Its great that raw cacao powder is actually packed full of antioxidants so I dont have to feel guilty when I indulge in my morning smoothie or Dr Mercola cocoa cassava bars

Is there any beauty or lifestyle product you make yourself? Tell us about it!

Not specifically, however I do experiment making my own face products. Ages ago my Aunty gave me an old book called ‘Natural Beauty’ by Lorna Horrocks that had all these cool homemade cleansers, toners and moisturizers using herbs and various other kitchen products. I have tried out a few and its really quite fun. For example I made my own toner by juicing cucumber, mint and adding some lemon.

What kind of β€˜eco’ drives you to a product most? E.g. organic? fair-trade? recyclable? cruelty-free?

Generally if anything is all-natural that is a huge tick, both for food and beauty products. Where possible I try to also buy organic.

Finally, are there any products which are not so eco-friendly, but you’re still struggling to part with?

Yes, there’s no way I could part with technology! Sorry, that’s just not happening! 😝

I feel like I’ve left this too long to tag anyone else, but if you’re is reading this and want to join in, by all means, please feel free! ❀❀❀
